Comment: An early Gene Autry Comic. And to think I actually got to meet him in person, man I'm old.

Comment: I think it was the Virginian (James Drury) who came to Hopewell VA and appeared in a parade way back when. I got a couple of blank cartridges fired by him. And I'm probably older than you, Geo. I started my 7th decade in June (that is, turned 60). Dell early Gene Autry is my #1 all-time favorite western comic book! Where JVJ prefers the art of Alex Toth, I prefer Jesse Marsh's art. (JVJ does admit that Toth was influenced by Marsh.) To me much of Toth's boldest art looks too much like B&W TV with the contrast turned up way to high. (I think I STILL dream in B&W from living too much of my early fantasy life watching westerns on B&W TV.) Jesse Marsh's art has very artistic use (but not overuse) of blacks and idyllic scenery (whether western or jungle). Many comic fans didn't like Marsh's art because his heroes were not muscle-bound and his art wasn't flashy -- both of which too many expected from reading too many (<grin>) of the muscle-bound, pajama-clad superheroes. (Actually I have read as many as most of them.) Download Gene Autry Comics #13 and enjoy! Thanks again for sharing, Geo! Bob (I'm still Public Enemy #1 and ever incorrigible and proud of it! See the evil, hear the screams of evil's victims, and SPEAK OUT against the evil, especially when it's unpopular to do so!)
