Includes an 8 page story, “Harry Butler – Crime In Reverse” by Wally Wood – scanned from my copy. The first publication of this story was in 1944 in the Fox giant “Book Of Comics” one-shot. It is easily recognizable as Wood’s work, reminiscent of his work at EC starting some 7 years later, sans the fantasy/machinery tropes.
If one scrolls through the many books reprinting Wally Woods’ work available on Amazon, all are reprinting his EC and post-EC work, but apparently no publisher has unearthed and reprinted the many 1940s crime stories done by Wood.
Vanguard Press’ 2013 volume “Wally Wood’s Eerie Tales of Crime & Horror” claimed on its cover to be the 'Complete Non-EC, 1950s Crime & Horror Comics of Wally Wood'. This is obviously not the case, although several crime covers are reprinted in the last section of the book. I’d love to see this story and all other crime stories (almost all in the Public Domain) collected and reprinted. |
