The story THE MUSIC MONSTER is clearly based on the movie THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which came out in 1943.

If the book was pub in May 1940.. how did it get influenced by the 1943 movie?? Think maybe the 1925 version with Lon Channey.. thou there was a 1943 version. (google & IMDB info)
