I gave this an 8. Maybe my expectations were low but this scan is amazing, far surpassing what I was expecting.
OK, I'm in love with the Queen of Diamonds. I don't care who knows it.

This comic features the first appearances of the Shield and the Comet, coming out at around the time that Captain America was also making his first apperance in Timely Comics. In fact, Captain America's creators were forced to change his shield from a regular shield to a round one because the original shield resembled the Shield's chest insignia. |

Irv Novick, Jack Cole, Charles Biro, Jack Binder, Ed Ashe, the obscure but interesting Lin Streeter, add top of the line writing and you have one of the greatest first issues of the Golden Age. The art gets even better in the upcoming issues with the addition of Mort Meskin and Bob Wood. If you've never read any MLJ's start here and you'll know why they have always been fan favorites. |
